A payroll bureau will supply HMRC with information on behalf of other businesses, and may receive and act upon information from HMRC regarding those businesses. The payroll bureau will also be a source of expertise for the business, without them employing their own payroll specialist.
What is Payroll Bureau? A payroll bureau is partly in-house and partly outsourced. Rather than having the entire process run in-house, you control part of it and outsource the remainder. This means that you employ the staff, you set the hours that they work and you oversee the processes.
Automatic enrolment is when an employee who meets certain requirements is made a member of a workplace pension scheme without needing to ask to be part of it. In the past, it was up to workers to decide whether they wanted to join their employer's pension scheme.
For the 2024/25 tax year, QE is a band of earnings starting at £520/m (or £120/wk) and ending at £4,189/m (or £967/wk). Employer contributions must be at least 3% of QE. Employer plus employee contributions with tax relief must total at least 8% of QE.
Payslip law also states that your employer must make your payslip available to you either on or before the day you're getting paid. This will vary depending on the type of business you work for – some paydays will fall on the same day every month, while others pay every four weeks.
The P32 is the Employer Payment Record. It's a summary of the amounts you have paid to HMRC each month 6th - 5th of the following month. This includes all PAYE, student loan deductions and National Insurance contributions.
